First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Shelbyville is seeking a Music Director. The Church Music Director plays a vital role in the worship experience at First Christian Church of Shelbyville. This individual must be passionate about church music, committed to fostering a strong spiritual and musical environment, and capable of engaging with diverse age groups and demographics.

Essential Qualifications:

~ Strong team player with collaborative leadership skills.

~ Excellent communication abilities, with a talent for engaging people of all ages.

~ Experience leading church services and coordinating worship music.

~ Proficiency in directing choirs, including Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir.

~ Experience working with a Praise Team.

~ Demonstrated commitment to Christian faith, aligning with the beliefs and philosophy of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ.)

Preferred Qualifications:

~ Ability to play an instrument.

~ Strong vocal ability.

~ Experience working with children in a musical setting.

~ Familiarity with ProPresenter or other worship presentation software.

~ Knowledge of sound system operation and audio-visual technology.

Duties & Responsibilities

Ongoing Responsibilities:

~ Lead and coordinate all music-related aspects of worship services.

~ Select hymns, anthems, and special music in collaboration with the Senior Minister, ensuring alignment with the church’s traditions and theology.

~ Direct and oversee the Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, and Praise Team.

~ Work with soloists and special music guests to ensure they are well-prepared and comfortable in their roles.

~ Prepare, copy, and distribute orders of service scripts for ministers, worship leaders, tech crew, and accompanists.

~ Provide the church secretary with all necessary information to communicate and promote music programs effectively.

~ Encourage congregation members to participate in the music ministry, recognizing and utilizing their gifts.

~ Maintain and organize the church’s music library.

Weekly Responsibilities:

~ Lead all worship services where music is a component.

~ Rehearse and coordinate the Chancel Choir, Handbell Choir, and Praise Team.

​

Monthly Responsibilities:

~ Work with church administration to plan and manage the music program’s budget and resource needs.

​

Seasonal Responsibilities:

~ Spring: Plan, rehearse, and present music for Lenten and Easter services, including Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday.

~ Summer: Arrange and coordinate special music performances during the choir’s break.

~ Winter: Plan, rehearse, and present Christmas music programs, such as Hanging of the Greens and Christmas Eve services.

Candidates will be evaluated based on a combination of education and experience, ensuring a good fit with First Christian Church of Shelbyville’s mission and values.
